iPassport QMS helps a lab to manage its extensive MSDS data. It can also manage the information contained within the MSDS in the form of COSHH records. The data on MSDS can be broken down accordingly: Acids/Base Strengths, Buffers, Carcinogens, CAS numbers, Chemical abbreviations, Emergency Information, Flash points, Gases, Glove materials, Hazard Codes, Highly toxic compounds , Incompatibles, Lasers, Maximum Exposure Limits, Peroxides, Risk and Safety Phrases, Shock-sensitive Materials, Chemical Synonyms, Templates, Teratogens, Toxicity Abbreviations and Workplace Exposure Limits.
This data can be linked to reagents and these reagents can be linked to SOPs to help the user calculate the risk associated with carrying out certain tasks. MSDS can be attached to each reagent allowing the lab discard their paper system and allow the user to reference an MSDS for a chemical of interest quickly by simply clicking a button. Bulky MSDS books can be made obsolete or minimised. iPassport QMS also allows the user to link to manufacturer’s websites so that all information available for a particular chemical is a button click away. Having the links to the reagents within the SOP allows the user to quickly shortcut from a step in a procedure to the reagent and associated MSDS to view safety information and what personal protective equipment they should use while carrying out the procedure.
The user can also create or edit their MSDS so that all relevant information is displayed clearly and with all emergency details at the top of the form. Employees will be better equipped for chemical handling and also to respond to emergencies. Spillage information as well as disposal information is a button click away.
