CLINICAL GENETICS MODULE
Appointments and Scheduling
The appointments system is designed to book appointments via specific clinics,
through a patient record or through the clinician’s diary, whichever
is most appropriate. This produces a flexible system and makes telephone bookings
fast and efficient. Telephone calls can be booked, monitored and timed for
efficient scheduling and task monitoring. A daily diary allows an ‘at
a glance’ view of the day’s clinics and tasks. Appointments may
be booked via specific clinics or through a patient record. Links between
staff leave and the appointments section will not allow a clinician on leave
to be inadvertently assigned a clinic.
Cancellation, Reasons and Appointment Re-booking
Cancellations, reasons for cancellation (patient and hospital), and the re-booking
of appointments are all accommodated within Genial Passport and may be audited.
Consent – signed patient consent forms can be easily scanned into Genial Passport where they can be stored and subsequently reviewed at any time. We understand this electronic storage of consent forms, linked to patient data, is becoming an increasingly important issue.
Letters and Reports
The letter writing package combines standard letters with an in built word
processor allowing fast, professional report writing. All patient correspondence
is automatically recorded chronologically for easy, accurate record keeping.
Standard letter and report templates can be constructed for repeated use but
these can be edited for each individual patient to tailor the correspondence
for their particular case. Microsoft Word is embedded in Genial Passport and
therefore provides full word processing capability for any documentation produced.
Reminders Function
Reminders (with pending actions) may be linked to any aspect of a patient’s
record in Genial Passport. These reminders may be assigned responsibility
to a particular member of staff and will appear when they log in with colour
coded priority.
Pedigree Function
Family relationships are entered in a straightforward manner. Pedigrees assembled
in Genial Passport can be exported to pedigree drawing packages and the resultant
pedigree drawings can be imported back into Genial Passport. Alternatively
pedigree packages can be launched directly from Genial Passport.
Phenotype
Users can attach images to patient records so that features can be checked
easily against patient information. Family members can be viewed alongside
the patient of interest in a gallery so familial features can be traced. Links
to Dysmorphology databases can be set up - labs can benefit from instant access
to commercial or ‘home-grown’ databases to make clinical assessments
faster and easier.
Cancer Referral Facility
• Risk information
• Screening, trial and investigation records
• Tumour discovery information
• Link to Diagnosis section
• Prophylactic treatment
• Histopathology results
Prenatal Referral Facility
• Prenatal screening and scan details
• Gestation automatically calculated from LMP or EDD
• Prenatal testing, termination and follow-up records
Laboratory Investigations and Recalls
Other investigations can be recorded so that important information such as
X-rays or biochemical tests can be viewed alongside any genetic tests. Screening
call backs can be set up years in advance enabling efficient, error-free patient
management. Other investigations can also be recorded so that important information
such as X-rays or biochemical tests can be viewed alongside any genetic tests.
Where the Cytogenetic and Molecular modules are also used the database is shared by all three modules. This allows access to summary information between modules by authorized users. A clinician may request cytogenetic and molecular tests directly and receive automatic updates on the status of that sample. Once a laboratory result is authorized the clinician may view the result within the Clinical Genetics module.
Clinical Diagnosis
Here details can be kept of previous diagnoses and also the confirmed final
diagnosis. A suspected diagnosis can be searched for associated clinical features
or syndromes.
Dysmorphology Database
Links can be created to a Dysmorphology database. Clinical features can be
searched and linked to other features or syndromes.
Document Images
Scanned images of documentation can be stored in the database, for example
images of the referral or consent form.
Patient Images
Images of the patient can be attached to their individual records so that
features can be checked easily against patient information. Family members
can be viewed alongside the patient of interest in a gallery so that familial
